Once, the gods of the Greeks were feared and respected. Once, they held the power to topple empires and shape the hearts of men. Once, merely looking upon the true face of a god could reduce a mortal to a cinder.

Those days are past.

Belief in the mythology of old has waned, and the pantheons have scattered and broken. The immortals that remain have adapted, attempting to assimilate themselves into modern society. Though they are in decline, they remain gods. They live and love and play their games, and none are the wiser. After all, what has a god to fear?

This is the story of a nymph, her roommates, the god who courts her, and a progressively more bizarre supporting cast. It is a tale of life, love, and fate at its worst. And, most of all, it is an online testimony to how the creative process can make really bizarre ideas seem like a good thing, providing the creator hasn't had enough sleep and may, in fact, get through an entire script before realizing they have a word processor open. I would advise that new readers start at the beginning, as this is a continuing story. SoI is also rated PG-13 for some adult content, including language, mild violence, and adult situations. If you're feeling charitable, feel free to support my evil empire by voting for me in the comicgenesis Super 100, thus attracting new vic-- readers.

8/24/04 - Why is it that mostly silent strips seem to take the most time? (Sorry, the pre-emmigration jitters have begun, and I spent a lot of time last night freaking out over medical stuff. Apparently I will be traveling with controlled substances. Great.)

A few announcements. SoI now has an IRC channel on Nightstar. I'm not entirely sure how this happened, but it's called #seaofinsanity, which you can generally reach via irc.nightstar.net . Also, we have a new, ad-free forum which you can post to without having to register. All hail theM for his help in acquiring these. :) And lastly . . .
I am now selling SoI art, starting with individual strips. To see which ones I'm currently considering slapping on eBay, go here. I'll be collecting votes for a week or so, then putting the "winners" on eBay. I probably wouldn't be doing this if I hadn't spent almost three hundred dollars on books (for only four classes!) or, you know, had a job, but you know what they say about desperate times. :P Oh, but I would like to thank the four people who used my PayPal button and donated me money. I love you guys, and I used some of the money to buy a few Tria markers to see if I can't start working with something other than pencil here. :)

Well, this month is very, very strange. In addition to Sea of Insanity's review in eSpudd.com's "Wild World of Web Comics" section, the notorious Sequential Tart has also reviewed the comic. I think I'm going to print and laminate them both, partly because maybe that will convince me that more than a dozen people are reading. o.O

In other news, I am desperatly broke (as opposed to just mostly broke), and am currently cleaning up images to sell on eBay . . . like this, at least once I fix the eyes and earring. Seriously, I hope I produce something someone actually wants to buy, because I've still got no job and I've got to buy college textbooks in a few weeks. *cringe*

Poesy has interviewed me regarding Sea of Insanity. Just what my ego needs: more encouragement.
I've joined the comicgenesis Super 100. If you vote for me enough to move me into the top 10 you can see the pretty new banner. :)
I've done an article for Sequential Tart about...er...anatomy. If you're a comics fan, check out ST anyway -- it's got more than a few neat articles on the subject, plus anime and manga.
Also, SoI now has an alternative account on Dreamwater at http://www.dreamwater.net/soicomic/home.html. This is not an archive. comicgenesis still hosts (and shall continue to host) Sea of Insanity -- I will be using Dreamwater to post a strip only when comicgenesis is down, not every day, and they shall be removed once the problem is repaired. It's also possible it will host a few miscellanious images of mine, since it seems a shame to waste space, but that'll have to wait. Hopefully I won't need to use it often, but it's nice to have a backup just in case. I recommend using this to keep up with recent events.

Today I bring you a new logo, a slightly new layout, and a hell of a lot of wasted paper and artistic frustration. Page 3 actually took me two days to complete, believe it or not -- mostly because I have the cold from hell, and it's not going away. I think the art's a pretty good indicator that I was losing it by that point.

However, it's done, and with the 100th strip out of the way I should probably mention that SoI's one year anniversary is coming up on March 26th. I'm planning on doing a color strip, but we'll see how things break down. Fortunatly, after this week is through I'll be on Spring Break, and that should help me recover somewhat. Also, I will now have Wednesday nights free, which is an advantage I haven't had for about eight weeks now. This reduced workload should hopefully make for less skipped/filler days. I really want to get the story rolling.

One last note: thanks to Matt Nute for the template and layout idea for the new SoI icon. Ooo, shiny . . . and so much better than the last one.
